On a delightful summer day, a small gathering of clergy and interested Rugbeians, together with their wives met for coffee in the Temple Reading Room. We then had the pleasure of listening to an amusing introduction from the Headmaster about Rugby School, both past and present, before the Chaplain, the Reverend Richard Horner, challenged us to take a broad rather than a restrictive view of the Christian Faith. His very wise words were picked up in a balanced conclusion by the Bishop of Birmingham, the Right Reverend David Urquhart (K 65-70) and we then departed to our respective Houses for lunch!
We were collected back to the library for a short tour by the evergreen Rusty Maclean which finished in Chapel where we called to mind times past and said the office for Evening Prayer. There was a chance to linger and to find seats which we had sat on all those years ago! But it was time for afternoon tea in School House, and so came to an end a pleasant and gentle Christian gathering. We hope to meet again and to open up the event to a wider audience |
