Please read the brochure and, if you enjoyed our special game as much as so many ORs did, help make sure that succeeding generations of Rugbeians are able to enjoy it too. |
| Rugby Fives at Rugby SchoolWith the support of a dedicated group of Rugbeians, Rugby School is raising funds to build two Rugby Fives courts adjacent to the existing Sports Centre. Our appeal for £200,000 launched in July 2008 has now achieved its target with £200,000 having been raised to date from 288 donors.
Crucially for the revival of the sport, these two courts will be at the hub of sporting life in the School, in the Sports Centre, and next to the squash courts. They will no longer be exposed to the rigours of the British weather and there will be a viewing gallery. Most encouragingly, planning consent has now been granted and the School is ready to build as soon as the funds are in place.
We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of Rugbeians and friends of the School alike but must rely on further support if we are to achieve our ambition to build these courts. If you can assist with securing additional funding, we should be so grateful for your help. Core details and a copy of the brochure can be found by clicking here, or from the Development Office at Rugby School (development@rugbyschool.net or 01788 556139).
We owe a great debt of gratitude to friends of Fives (Rugbeians who live all over the world and members of the Rugby Fives Association, The Jesters Club, American Players, current parents, ex-members of staff, and many others) and we are hopeful that we may join friendly rivals Oundle and Alleyn's, who have recently erected brand new courts through the care and generosity of alumni and others.
It has been particularly moving to receive support from players of other court games (rackets, real tennis, squash and the other brands of Fives). This underlines a real fellowship and bonhomie among those who enjoy these sports and accept their complementary nature. We must not let our friends down now!
We are so very grateful for your generosity and support to date.
One of the leading Fives 'activists', Dick Warner (W 64-69) has raised outstanding sponsorship for the 'cause' as a result of running the 2008 Crick (for the first time!) at the age of 57. Some £10,000 donated, which averages £1000 per mile (or, as he insists, £5000 per hour!).
